Oh, wow, a reply to a reply to a reply to a reply. Yes, Hans Zimmer has an e-mail! Sort of. At his official page, you can, "Ask Hans," but does he answer?? He hasn't answered my question. I asked him about Noyona. I've got the song stuck in my head.

HANS ZIMMER

E-mail: CAGNEY123@AOL.COM

TO ALL YOU HANS FANS: YOU GUYS PICKED A GREAT ONE. I'VE BEEN
FOLLOWING THIS GUY FOR YEARS, AND I THINK HE IS GREAT, THOU HE HAS
COMPOSED A FEW DUDS OVER THE YEARS. MY FIRST RECOLLECTION OF
HANS IS THE RAINMAN SOUNDTRACK. THE "DRIVING" THEME IS GREAT.
K2 WAS FANTASTIC, YOU MUST RENT THE MOVIE SOMETIME....THEY ONLY
USED A SMALL PORTION OF HIS MUSIC, HIRING ANOTHER COMPOSER TO DO
THE REMAINDER OF THE FILM. AFTER SEEING THE FILM I TOLD MY WIFE
"THEY MUST HAVE FIGURED THE MUSIC DWARFED THE FILM". A WORLD APART
IS ANOTHER GREAT AFRICAN THEME FILM. THE CLOSING TITLE IS AMONG
HAN'S GREATEST STUFF. BY THE WAY, HANS HAD A HAND IN 3 BEST PICTURES
OF THE YEAR IN A ROW....87,88,89...THE LITTLEST EMPORER, RAINMAN, AND DRIVING
MISS DAISY. NOT BAD FOR AN ALMOST UNKNOWN COMPOSER AT THE TIME.
I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET PAPER HOUSE FOR A LONG TIME....EUROPEAN
AND OUT OF PRINT. I RECENTLY TRACKED DOWN BLACK RAIN, WHICH HAS
A TERRIFIC CLOSING TRACK. I COULD TALK ABOUT THIS COMPOSER ALL
NIGHT, BUT I'VE BEEN HIKING ALL DAY AND I'M KIND OF TIRED...I HOPE
I MAKE SOME SENSE, AND WILL CHECK BACK SOON WITH INFO ON THE
SOUNDTRACKS OF HANS ZIMMER THAT AREN'T SO GOOD. UNTIL THAT TIME....

Shenzi: Told you!

Bonzai: OK, let's hear you spell your name.

Shenzi: S-C-H-E-N-Z-I...

Bonzai: Ed, can you spell your name?

Shenzi: Of course he can. Ed's name has only two letters, but I wonder if he can. Ed, spell your name.

Ed: Ha-ha.

E-mail: Stoooopid humans! Bonzai, they still want our e-mail address!

Shenzi: We're here to say that Hans Zimmer rules. We love The Lion King soundtrack and Rhythm of the Pride Lands. Bonzai, what do you have to say.

Bonzai: About what?

Shenzi: About Hans Zimmer. You know, he wrote the music for The Lion King, and that one movie about that bad detergent.

Bonzai: Oh, that guy. Wait a second, what movie about bad detergent?

Shenzi: I think it was called Crimson Tide.

Bonzai: Oh, right. Hans Zimmer is cool! We love him! We love those little vocals in the background of those songs.

Ed; (To the tune of Busa) Ha ha, ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha! (Spit)

Shenzi: Yuck! Last time I ever ask you to give your opinions on this page.

Bonzai: Any way, Hans Zimmer is the only human we like. All other humans are so hairy...

Shenzi: ...and stinky...

Bonzai: ...so dirty...

Shenzi: ...so pushy...

Bonzai: and man are they (with shenzi) ugggg-leee!

Shenzi: Hans Zimmer is cool though. He's our friend.

Bonzai: Oh, and we like you to, Mr. Tiemann.

I'm having a bit of a problem with those hyenas. They turn on my computer when no one's looking. They sit there looking at this page.
Yesterday, they tried to post a message. They went a little overboard, and sent the thing eight times (I counted). My bill's gone way up. What can I do about it? Should I send them to a gorge, telling them that I've got a big surprise for them?

Yes, GREEN CARD doesn't get much mention, but I think it's a fantastic, haunting score. Track #2 is simply one of the very best things Hans has ever done, and represents a style I wish he'd get back to. As a writer, I can't tell you the number of time I've listened to track #2 and found the inspiration for an idea. It's a wonderful, dark kind of Lawrence of Arabia, in many ways.

I saw THE ROCK this weekend, scored by Hans and someone else. I liked it, but didn't love it. Sounded too much like CRIMSON TIDE, and never really provided anything fresh. Same pounding strings that CRIMSON had. Oh, well, hope THE FAN is better.

Disturbing trend on Scores
Andy Kim
E-mail: a2kim@cayley.uwaterloo.ca

First I'd like to say WOW! There have been quite a few messages since the last time I've checked here. It's great to see so many fans of Hans Zimmer fans and hopefully Motion Picture Scores (MPS) in general.

I would just like to point out a rather disturbing trend however. Anyone else out there notice the increasing number of "Soundtracks" as opposed to MPS's lately. What I mean are those CD's that have a bunch of songs from the movie... er... half the songs that were in the movie and the other half of related material but otherwise have nothing to do with the movie.

I have a friend who says he's also into soundtracks. However it's not the MPS's he's interested in but the "Pop" music that went along with the movie. A good example is the Batman Forever "Soundtrack" vs. the MPS (however neither of them were very exceptional). Anyways my point is that it seems that the CD companies have been putting more and more of the Pop type "Soundtracks" on the shelves and less and less of the scores out on the shelf in order increase popularity into the Soundtrack section of the record store.

That's fine. I would love to see our favorite section of the record store become the most popular. However I don't want to see THAT kind of popularity. I would rather see a majority of MPS than have my favorite section get "Popular". The stores already have "Pop", "Alternative", "Metal", etc. sections in the store. I don't think we need a section that carries all of them and call it "Soundtracks". Years ago, I used to buy a soundtrack almost once every two weeks. Now, I have trouble find any good scores that aren't totally mixed with other stuff I'd rather not listen to.

This is not a complaint but more of an observation and I'm interested in hearing opposing/agreeing views on this. What do you guys think. Am I just WAY too much of a MPS freak? Well I'll catch you guys later! Ciao!

Andy

Can Jeroen or anyone tell me more about the soundtrack
to True Romance? Is there a full CD Zimmer score?
I've seen the track listing of the CD at the Media Ventures website,
but didn't see any songs credited to Zimmer...
So I wonder if there's a seperate CD of Zimmer's score?
If so, is it worth buying? (I love the main theme!)

Chris CAINE
E-mail: imc@top.net

Millenium is available in Australia from Warner.
LISTEN UP, I am visiting the US in July; anyone wanting Zimmer stuff unavailable in the US,
is welcome to ask me for Australian stock. I leave June 26th, so be early.
cost will be a maximum of US$21.

Does anyone dance (a jig) listening to Zimmer like I do?
MUPPETS is quite grand - suspiciously sounding like DROP ZONE, with a tinge of CRIMSON TIDE.

I'm happy to report that I have all Zimmer releases except NEW MUSIC
which is being re-released from Germany along with PAPERHOUSE and A WORLD APART.

Toodles ya big noodles!! =:)

Space concerns
Brian Tiemann
E-mail: btman@cco.caltech.edu

I was watching this board grow in size (at a totally unexpected rate!), and realized that sooner or later I'll have to flush the messages, or else do what I did with the Guest Book and throw all the old messages into a separate file and start over. I need some input from you all. How long should I let the board grow before I flush it? Is it ready for a flush now, or is it really not as cumbersome as I imagine it must be to just scroll to the end when you load it? Or do you have any ideas for a full overhaul of the board's layout altogether?

Thanks!

Dear (not Alan I presume) Silvestri,

Not to detract from the movie nor the score,
THE ROCK is scored by Hans' stablemate NICK-GLENNIE SMITH
(one to you Pat), with some assistance from Hans.

I look forward to the experience.

Chris

My suggestion to Brian was that the Board be viewed in an
descending order (ie. last messages first).

Mark was never an assistant to Hans. Mark has had an affiliation with Media Ventures for a long time either composing commercialsfor the company or ghosting on cues for Hans on many movies.
He joined the team at Media and wrote music for many TV shows as well as movies. See Twister for his latest score.

Mark has worked on many scores WITH Zimmer, he also produces the songs in

They have a similar sound perhaps as Mark has ghosted on many Zimmer scores and they have worked together for a long time. ------------------ Jun 23 - 13:44 There is a new Message Board entry. ------------------ E-mail: nicog@earthlink Subject: Re: HZ a member of the Hans was in the Buggles. The Rock/ Hans Zimmer Message Board/Hans Zimmer Compilation
Uwe Sperlich
E-mail: 103311,1543@compuserve.com

Hi,
I just saw the 'The Rock' with Sean Connery, one of my most favorite actors. As usual I couldn't get the terrific soundtrack by my favorite composer, because it's again delayed. I must say I really don't understand those record companies. Sometimes they i ssue a soundtrack of a movie that hasn't been released for months and on the other hand everyone is waiting for a special score (here it's 'The Rock'). In Germany it's even more stupid! Sometimes they release a soundtrack, and then the movie is only relea sed on video, it never hits our screens.
Let's hope that 'The Rock' will be issued soon.
Does anyone know where the Hans Zimmer/Mark Mancina compilation is available ?? (Please e-mail me!)(Backtrack doesn't have it)
Finally I'd like to suggest to remove older messages, because the board is too full !

Thanks :-)

E-mail: rmadison@nmsu.edu

I have The Rock soundtrack, purchased at Hastings music and video. My personal favorite HZ music is Crimson Tide, because of the Naval Hymn arrangement on it. However, The Rock is a close second. Of course, those other two guys are listed in it, but th e powerful driving melody is obviously Mr. Zimmer. I think the flute work on track 3 and 6 is the other guy. Anyways, The Rock..heh..ROCKS. Get it!

Actually, he is co-composing the soundtrack with another composer.
You can tell HZ worked on it because of the string ensembles,
and the strong presence of the percussion section.
Overall, awesome movie. Best movie I've seen this summer.
FYI, HZ's next film is "The Fan", directed by Tony Scott.
