Hei, Thomas!

Skriver denne beskjeden p norsk, til alle andres store irritasjon.

(To everyone else: sorry for my norwegian message...)

Does anybody know ?

I wonder what Hans Zimmer did to become such a great filmcomposer as he is today. Music-technology is something special and can be used in many different ways. I prefer filmcomposing, which is something I would like to know more about. In my country there is no kind of education like filmcomposing, so if anybody knows anything about this, please mail me.

Wow, that subject joke was a bit easier, lol

Dude, the CD you are looking for is called Come See the Paradise, composed by Randy Edelman. Great score!

For anyone else with similar questions, there is a list just for you: 1) Go to www.filmmusic.com, 2) Click on the "Music" option on the main page, 3) Click on the "Reference" heading for reference links, 4) Click on the "Trailer Music List," which is nea r the top, and is updated through December 1996. Has almost every movie for every question!!!!Hope that helps!!!!

Along the samelines, does anyone know where the trailer music from the 1993(?) film Geronimo is from? This is not the Disney film, but the Walter Hill film with Gene Hackman. I'd really appreciate it! (This is one not on the list for some reason)

Yumbo, thanks man, I owe you one! (hahahaha -- again, should get to you by Friday)

Everyone elze (lol) -- Caught another clip of Smilla's Sense of Snow on the Tonight Show last night -- sounds great with some really suspenseful and foreboding music......

Until later, I'm off!!!!!!!

The ads for THE ROCK on cable TV pay-per-view have, I believe, Zimmer Music I've never heard before. Anyone have an idea what it is. It kicks ass too. Maybe it's BAD BOYS which I don't own

Also, still looking for a FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS, have BLACK RAIN, PACIFIC HEIGHTS, and others to trade. Would also be willing to buy an audio cassette of it, if you'd be kind enough to tape it for me. I have body heat on audio cassette and could trade that too.

Dear Peter and all zoodles,

Backdraft is NOT being re-issued; do not confuse the issue (lol). A few REMASTERED ('new') tracks will be included on an upcoming compilation.

As for the DOT petition - that was initiated back in November. I received 54 'votes'. I guess there are a lot more zoodles out there who want this score, but were too lazy or were unaware/offline.

Hans replied in December (see Zinfo); we appealed in German on Feb. 8th, and he then asked me to call him. He essentially re-iterated what he stated in December.

However, he did mention some plans - negotiations for a 'package', but it is too early to speculate/expect anything.

The original MOVIE score will not be released. However, he wants UNUSED bits as well as material from other movies released. It's basically a wait and see situation.

Watch Zinfo for more details. Feel free to add to the petition. Comment, gather OTHER people's support. There is an RA file to The Preacher's Wife there.

For now....go out and get WWW and Smilla's when it's released here (possibly March 4th). I have added a BEST CD BUY online comparison chart for your benefit as well.

Otherwise, buy DOT on VHS at $6, and tape excerpts like I've done - pretty good.

.....Zimmer on! (I've forgotten what I was actually sposed to write....darn in tarnazionz!)

The question is where do I post such petition? Please reply and post on the message board so that everyone can do their part!

Whole Wide World - Review, etc.
Yumbo

Hi,

I was lucky to receive WWW as a Valentine's gift (first such thing!) yesterday.

As I've said, there are reports of certain copies not playing right:

Some only read 9 of the 12 tracks;
some have the end credits in the middle.

The 'normal' copy I have (Mojo Trax/Uni) is:

12 tracks (which you can find on Marco's listings), and runs for 42.17, of which 1.12 is silence.

I suspect the gap in Track 12 is how it runs in the movie, and may be the 'Kushner-Locke Co.' logo music (new) composed by Hans/Harry.

Looks like Harry Gregson-Williams is getting his turn (The Rock, Smilla's Sense of Snow), a la Nick Glennie-Smith. What is it with these hyphenated names? A British thing? (Not saying that they are.)

Anyway, here goes:

Listening post - 2 channel stereo YAMAHA mini.

1 - ...low, calm, quiet...serene...swelling!!!!!! watch that bass (the stupendous LOVE THEME that appears 3 times, a la Crimson Tide)...subliminal! denouement.....

2 - clarinet/oboe synth...violins, quiet trumpet......White Squall-ish...ambience......rising synths...choir peeking. light notes, harp.....easy going.....darkness.....here comes the choir. hit that cue! loud synth rhythms......abrupt silence, 'reconaissa nce'....are we in a submarine? low notes.....

3 - rumble!!! drums.....violent violins.....
4 - melody number 2...soft wind, synths....pleasantries...guitar chord.

5 - let's continue the mood.....piano/keyboard notes...slow lilting trumpet...easy does it......VA-VA BOOM!!!!!! that theme! sweeping, grandiose.....enveloping....tapering.

6 - more light motifs...lol. uh-oh...spoke too soon. We're under water! CT mood strikes......

7 - here and there...(of the same).
8 - dark stuff.....eerie atmosphere a la Paperhouse.
9 - ...ethereal voice synths...
10 - the acoustic guitar makes its mark. well blended keyboards. piano...

11 - ...latin rhythms.....
12 - ...reprise....main theme...too good....oh yah - the zuice flows.....melodies....SILENCE...bombastic violin cue.

And here's a treat:

and thar yoo go....well recommended is what I was trying to convey, grin. Would definitely see the movie when possible.

Pat: SSOSnow is available in Europe on Teldec Records. No sign here yet. Love Marco's wav file. If the reviews/hype are anything to go by, looks like it is a movie to see, and LISTEN to as well.

Younger and Younger, and Paperhouse are titles that are deleted but in stock (US).

zoodles!!!

New Zimmer-CD released
Jon Aanensen
E-mail:
Location: Norway

On thursday the 13. of february, I discovered the new Harry Gregson-Williams/Hans Zimmer-CD "Smilla's Sense Of Snow" in my local record store. The CD doesn't include any songs, just the score! I heard a few minutes of the music in the noisy shop, and at f irst listen it sounded kind of cold and dark, i.e. the film's setting. It was not at all as up-tempo as for instance The Rock.
The CD was released on a strange label that I don't remember at the moment.

Is this score released world-wide, or perhaps it's a strictly european release? I haven't heard much talk about it actually.

hi zoodles,

I forgot to ask whether anyone needs PAPERHOUSE.

On another not quite irrelevant note, here's something you may need to keep your habit going, maybe improve it.

I purchased the modem last week, and realised it is not what I wanted. Rather than lose money by swapping it with the retailer (for another), I am trying to help somebody out there, who knows this is the modem for them.

I paid $180 for it on Feb. 1st.

I will post it to whoever in the US for $155.
(For rec.music.movie users, I am willing to take $5 off any Zimmer/etc. CD I am imparting)

Please let me know ASAP. It is AS NEW, but missing the inner cardboard packing because they flattened it for shipping.

thank you,

Hi Jon and all others !

The CD you mentioned is released on the RCA-Red Seal label here in Germany. Last year they issued some new-recordings of older
scores, such as "Nosferatu", a Charlie Chaplin disc including "Gold Rush", a Dimitri Tiomkin disc including a suite from "High Noon" and also a Franz Waxman disc including Sayonara.
These discs were mostly recorded in Berlin by various conductors, such as Carl Davis and Elmer Bernstein.
As for this special CD that has the name "Hans Zimmer" on it, I'm not quite sure, if this is "OUR" guy or not.

As soon as I see this disc in our CD stores here, I will let you
know more.

Cheers ;-)

Uwe

Today, I discovered a new title under "Hans Zimmer" in a CD-catalogue with new releases for february. The CD was called "Four Alice Comedies", and it was a collaboration with something/someone called "Rias Sinfio" The price was 199 norwegian kroner, or ab out £20, i.e. quite high. Does anyone know anything about this item? Could this be a compilation album from four comedies? Is Rias Sinfio an orchestra? Or perhaps a person?

Todd,

The soundtrack to True Romance should still be widely available in the market. If you do enough checking, you may be able to find it locally (depending on where you are). All three score tracks by Zimmer are nice - a real cool montage of stuff. Persona lly, I really enjoy track #11 - "Amid The Chaos Of The Day". Nevertheless, all of the Zimmer trademarks are there.
Pick it up and ENJOY!
