• I had been organizing a petition for the release of Days Of Thunder , Bird On A Wire , Two Deaths, and the fuller releases of other Zimmer scores.

• This reply was given in December '96:

  "Mr. Zimmer wanted me to tell you that the reason why those scores have not been released is that the album could not be produced and marketed in order to make money. There are too many end benefits attached to those scores that would have to be paid out in order for the release of the album. Hans also wanted me to add that, personally, he thinks the scores in question are not worth releasing because they do not appeal to him. In any case he doubts that the scores could be released because of the reasons mentioned above. Thank you for your interest and efforts."

• Your comments are welcome, via our Guest Book; I will compile them as a forum - this may highlight the existence of the Zimmer/Mancina Collaboration (bootleg). Note that The Preacher's Wife score is currently unavailable commercially.

• There has been some development!
  In answer to an appeal for the petition, Hans asked me to call him on Saturday, Feb. 8th. Here are just some of the things we discussed.

• Hans is aware of FYD, and does not have a copy (why would he?).
• Additional light on DOT/BOAW - what people are unaware of is that extensive recording (orchestra - experimenting) on those scores occurred, and even though they were not even used in the movie itself, any CD release entitles ALL (union) musicians to remuneration. This is the basis of the expense behind releasing said scores.
• However, Hans is interested in releasing some session music involving Jeff Beck, which he LIKES as opposed to the material actually used in the movie. Negotiations with a label are still underway. He is also interested in getting the full sessions to The Fan released.
• As for disliking some of his results, Hans related unsavoury project experiences (interference from others etc.) as reasons for dislike of scores or re-associating with them. Philosophy: "Next!"

• The good news is that:

  Previously unavailable and remastered music from Backdraft (now ISDN quality) has been released! It is a REMIX medley of the firefighters march Fahrenheit 451/Show Me Your Firetruck (originally tracks 8 and 9), appearing on Passions & Achievements: A 20-year Retrospective of Soundtracks from Films of Director Ron Howard, and was released on May 20th on Milan Records. And Hans is very specific about this one, and has him excited. "It sounds so much better..." Artwork and notes are excellent, in soft cover - remix and quality are amazing! The track runs for 5.38 minutes; the medley including Fahrenheit 451 runs for for 2.39 minutes before seguing into Show Me Your Firetruck for the remaining 2.59 minutes. It is the version based on the one used in the movie, and is very inspiring!

• Content wise, the first 2.39 minutes is exactly the same as the original release. The end of the original track 8 (snare drums) is cut short from 2.59 minutes. The new edit ALSO features a trumpet layer at 2.23 minutes beautifully heralding the 2nd segment for about 2 seconds.
• At 2.39 minutes, Show Me Your Firetruck makes a grand NEW entry. The original first 22 seconds is cut out; at 3.56 minutes, there is also another edit cutting out 5 seconds from the original; at 5.15 minutes facilitating the shorter end is the NEW presence of cymbals, and the last 3 seconds of the original is left out (less drums), with this mix using a fade, rather than the original hard stop.
• Another new layer, is the running drum step from 4.40 minutes right after the then cymbal crescendo!
• Interestingly, the running snare rolling from the original is removed! It is more noticeable during the early part of the Show Me Your Firetruck segment, around 2.50-3.20 minutes.
• To sum up, what is produced, is a definitely louder, 'faster', clearer, warmer, and taut version. The cymbals and hi-hats are given emphasis in this one, instead of the original snare rolling. NOTE: they should do this to a NEW version of The Power Of One, as heard in the movie!!!!
• The rest of the album has some worthy tracks, notably Cocoon, Willow, Apollo 13, and Ransom from James Horner, and Far and Away from John Williams.

  He also thinks we could see more of Thelma & Louise released.
  Furthermore, he feels that Two Deaths, being the BEST score he's written deserves to be released, but is not possible.

• With the release of Whole Wide World on Mojo Trax (Rifkin), it is plausible to think that more Zimmer related scores may be able to be released through them! Dreamworks Records should prove a good avenue as well.

• There is more wonderful music, ie. cues from the making of Drop Zone, Crimson Tide , and the trailer to The Power Of One!
• Other scores not fully included on CD include - Backdraft , The Fan, Rainman, Black Rain, Thelma & Louise, Calendar Girl, True Romance, Cool Runnings, A League of Their Own, Green Card, Point Of No Return, Broken Arrow , The Lion King, Crimson Tide and The Power Of One.
